Map of Knypersley Pool

Knypersley Pool is a British Waterways reservoir, which stretches for nearly half a kilometer through the Greenway Bank Country Park, designed by Thomas Telford it was opened in 1827. It holds 930,000 cubic metres of water and provides a constant feed for the Cauldon Canal and from there into the Trent & Mersey Canal.
The reservoir is a base for local angling clubs offering match anglers shoals of roach, perch with bream and specimen carp and pike. As an angling venue it was saved from extinction by the foresight of local angling clubs who purchased the fishing rights for club angling.

It is not only anglers who visit Knypersley Pool though. The area has been a local beauty spot for decades. It was a favourite place of mine to explore during school holidays and then later as somewhere very quiet and pleasant to take the dog for a walk, or just to walk.

The water level is high now

After the investment by British Waterways in 2005 and the renovation during late 2005 and early 2006 when the water level was reduced to allow work to be carried out on the overspill, the reservoir is once again full.
